Stereotype

A Stereotype is an exaggerated image of a group of people that does not correspond (completely) to reality. It is often a prejudice, a negative idea, that is used to justify discrimination. An example of a Stereotype is: men are better leaders. This Stereotype means women are sometimes seen as less suitable politicians, when in reality this is not the case.
